RURAL EDDYVILLE — A crash involving a garbage truck killed an Indiana man Friday evening in rural Mahaska County.
The Iowa State Patrol says 58-year-old Randolph S. Beaty, of Amboy, Indiana, was killed when the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu he was driving struck a garbage truck. Beaty was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.
A passenger in the Malibu, 56-year-old Jeffrey L. Davis, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was injured and taken to Mahaska Health Partnership hospital in Oskaloosa by ground ambulance. Davis' condition was not released.
According to the preliminary report, the crash was reported to authorities at 4:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 63 near 310th Street, about three miles north of Eddyville.
The state patrol says a garbage truck driven by 24-year-old Michael Ross Blom, of Rose Hill, was crossing the highway and did not yield to the Malibu. The Malibu struck the passenger side of the garbage truck and became pinned under the rear axles. The report did not list Blom among the injured.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Eddyville Fire Department, Oskaloosa Fire Department and Mahaska County Ambulance.
The accident remains under investigation.
