OTTUMWA — There will be a new program this summer focused on community safety.
Ottumwa Regional Mobile Intensive Care Services (ORMICS) will have a “summer safety” program this year, with staff rewarding youth they see making safe choices.
Paramedic Abraham Flores said the ORMICS crews will be looking for things like children who are wearing helmets while biking and safely crossing the streets. ORMICS personnel will carry gift certificates for Polar Xpress, with which it has partnered for the program.
For this summer, at least, seeing a paramedic with a child in a neighborhood won’t necessarily be a reason to worry.
