OTTUMWA — Police have released additional information on a murder that took place in Ottumwa this weekend.
Preston Odell Martin, 37, has been charged with first degree murder in the death of Thomas Foster. Police found Foster at his home in the 500 block of Queen Anne Avenue Saturday afternoon after being called to a report of a suspicious death. It wasn’t the only call to police from that area on the day.
Shortly before noon police received a report of a suspicious person near Thomas’ home. The caller gave a description of the person, but police were not able to find him at that time. Police rebroadcast the description after Foster was found.
Police found Martin near the Jefferson Street Bridge at 3:21 p.m. He was detained and potential evidence was found on Martin. That led police to seek a search warrant for Martin as well as Foster’s home. That search led to Martin’s arrest.
The state courts’ database did not have an entry for the charge as of Tuesday afternoon.
