OTTUMWA — There are some changes being made in the Ottumwa League of Women Voters forum for school board candidates.

The league’s forum is usually held at City Hall, but with 15 candidates currently on the ballot that would crowd the council chambers. This year’s forum will be in the auditorium at Evans Middle School, which has more space available.

The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. The format remains familiar, with each candidate given time to make opening and closing statements. Written questions will also be allowed from the audience.

This year’s school board election has drawn far more candidates than usual and is also the subject of some controversy. Seven candidates’ places on the ballot were challenged over missing signatures by petition collectors. The district allowed those candidates to remain on the ballot, a decision now being challenged in court.

Questions about the forum may be directed to League President Mary Stewart at mary.stewart-court@gmail.com or Vice President Michael Miller at miller32@protonmail.com.
