A group of Ottumwa and Oskaloosa Scouts enjoyed a trip in July to the Philmont Boy Scout Camp in New Mexico.

A total of 21 Scouts and leaders got on the train at the LaPlata, Mo., station, to head to New Mexico. They are members of Troop 11 in Ottumwa and Troop 77 Oskaloosa. One group posed for a photo with a Courier and the American flag on Baldy Mountain, with an elevation of  112,771 feet. The accompanying photos are taken at the top of Tooth of Time Peak.

Thanks, guys, for thinking to take along a Courier on your wonderful adventure.

Not exactly a weird veggie, but a golf ball-shaped mushroom caught the eye of Buck Penrod. He discovered it in his front yard in east Ottumwa.

And, at 615 W. Finley Ave. in Ottumwa, Easter lilies are blooming. Hey! Maybe we’ll skip snow and go right to spring!

Thanks to Mickey Hucks for submitting the photo.
