PACKWOOD — The Pekin High School volleyball team won three of its matches during Saturday’s tournament at Pekin High School.
The Panthers (4-3) outlasted Danville 11-21, 21-11, 15-8, defeated Highland 21-13, 21-6 and Louisa Muscatine (21-18, 21-16) before falling to New London 21-12, 21-11.
Allison Bainbridge had 20 kills, 14 digs and six blocks for the Panthers in the tournament, while Erika Coleman had 25 assists and was 43 of 44 serving with eight aces. Kylie Davis had 20 digs, while Kaydlyn Johnson had 19, as they were two of four players with at least a dozen on the day.
Pekin hosts Sigourney in a match today.
Mustangs drop four in tournament
STATE CENTER — Davis County lost all four of its matches at the West Marshall tournament, and came within four points in any game only once.
The Mustangs (1-5) lost to 13th-ranked (Class 1A) BCLUW 21-12, 21-10, were defeated by West Marshall 21-15, 21-14, fell to Waterloo Columbus 21-15, 21-14, and lost to Odgen 21-12, 21-17.
Davis County’s serving improved throughout the tournament, but was at just 82 percent in the four matches.
Morgan Petefish had 11 kills and 12 digs for the Mustangs, while Hannah Schooley had 20 digs and Kara Greiner 19. Brett Lough came up with 23 assists.
The Mustangs compete in the English Valleys tournament Saturday.
