OTTUMWA — One state wrestling tournament made news on Thursday.
The Albia High School wrestling team wrapped up the dual portion of their season with three more wins on Thursday, edging Central Decatur 41-25 and Pleasantville 47-36 while adding a 47-26 win over South Central Conference rival Davis County.
CENTERVILLE — The Centerville girls' high school basketball team cruised to their 12th straight win to remain perfect on the season, earning a 50-21 win over the Chariton Chargers.
CENTERVILLE — One week after breaking through with the first win of the season, the Centerville Big Reds were still seeking their first South Central Conference victory.
DES MOINES — The Ottumwa boys and girls both secured their first CIML Metro conference wins of 2021 on Thursday. The Bulldogs boys posted their best team score of the season, rolling a 3,162 at Air Lanes to beat Des Moines Roosevelt by 575 pins.
PEKIN — Brady Millikin missed out on facing Wapello earlier this season in a Southeast Iowa Superconference north division showdown.
Brayden Messamaker drilled seven shots from 3-point territory, scoring 21 points to lead the Albia boys basketball team to a ninth straight win on Monday.
EDDYVILLE — It took the highest scoring effort of the season by Davis County on Friday to prevent the Rockets from scoring consecutive South Central Conference wins.
PEKIN — Following Friday night's 49-43 victory over Mediapolis, defending Southeast Iowa Superconference north division champion Pekin hosted Cardinal from the south division in a cross-division game.
PLEASANTVILLE — The Albia wrestling team improved their dual record to 16-1 on the season, earning five wins including a 45-34 victory over Pleasantville on Saturday night at the Trojans Duals.
BLOOMFIELD — Travis Stout may not have had time to make the left-handed signal normally reserved for Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont head baseball coach Thomas Hallgren.
PEKIN — With a showdown for the Southeast Iowa Superconference north division lead looming next week, the Pekin Panthers needed to hold off an upset bid by three-win Mediapolis on Friday.
ALBIA – Carter Anderson recorded his 100th career win on Thursday, helping the Blue Demons clinch the South Central Conference dual championship. The Blue Demons rolled to a 78-6 win over Chariton before clinching a sweep of SCC titles this season with a 53-30 win over Clarke.
DONNELLSON — Jaelyn Boley has missed more free throws attempts than she's made so far this season for the Van Buren County girls basketball team.
MORAVIA – The Moravia girls basketball team was on fire during the first quarter of play as they hosted Moulton-Udell with each team looking to move up from the middle of the Bluegrass Conference standings.
LETTS — Isabel Manning outdueled Kylee Sanders, scoring 35 points while grabbing 13 rebounds for Van Buren County in a 67-57 Southeast Iowa Superconference crossover win.
FAIRFIELD – PCM didn't find the confines of the Fairfield High School gymnasium too friendly on Monday night, mustering only four points in the first half of play.
LONE TREE — Kerrigan Pope and Erika Coleman each record double-doubles, leading a dominant night in the paint for the Panthers in a 68-27 Southeast Iowa Superconference north division win.
DES MOINES – Making her start on the varsity high school hardwood, Zoey Jones helped the Ottumwa High School girls basketball team break through with the first win of the season.
DES MOINES – Trae Swartz scored a season-high 34 points, including 22 in the first half, as the Ottumwa boys basketball team rolled to the team's first CIML Metro conference win of the season.
