DES MOINES — Trae Swartz had two hits and scored two runs during an eight-run rally in the fifth inning of a come-from-behind CIML Metro conference road win for the Ottumwa baseball team in the first game of a doubleheader at Des Moines Hoover on Monday. The Bulldogs swept the Huskies, winning 10-4 in game one before taking game two, 7-4.
Hoover jumped out in front in the first inning of the of the doubleheader. D'Ontraez Robinson led off with a single and scored on a sac fly by Nathan Morrisey before Morgan Judge doubles to left with two outs, scoring on an RBI single to right by Dalton Davis to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead.
Swartz then kicked off Ottumwa's eight-run rally with an infield single before coming around to score on an RBI single to right by Zach Bennett to cut Hoover's lead in half. Dominick Delehoy and Colton McKinnon each drew bases-loaded walks to give the Bulldogs the lead before Jesus Jaime unloaded the bases with a three-run double to left, giving Ottumwa a 6-2 lead.
Swartz would add to the Bulldog lead later in the inning, driving in Jaime with an RBI double. Jaime would drive in his fourth run of the game with a sacrifice fly to score Delehoy in the fifth before scoring in the seventh on a passed ball.
Hoover took a lead in the second game against the Bulldogs, answering an opening-inning RBI single by Brody Evans by plating two runs in the fourth on an OHS fielding error. Jamie collected his second run-scoring double of the day in the fifth inning of the nightcap to tie the score at 2-2, before Swartz struck again with a two-run infield single that brought home Jaime and Logan Chickering to snap the tie.
Ottumwa (12-7, 9-1 CIML Metro) return to Des Moines on Wednesday for a doubleheader at Des Moines North.
