Ava Ferrell picked up her career varsity pitching win on Saturday, allowing just two runs on five hits over six innings as the Cardinal softball team earned a split at the North Mahaska triangular tournament with a 3-2 win over Moravia. The hosting Warhawks shut out the Comets, 7-0, in the following game.

Lydia Moses scored a pair of runs, including the game winner in the sixth inning, against the Mohawks. Rachel Lewman had two of Cardinal's six hits, including a double and the third run scored by the Comets in the victory.

Ferrell, Lewman, Moses and Riley Bears all collected a hit in game two for Cardinal. North Mahaska scored twice in the first inning off Ferrell and never looked back, adding four runs in the third to put the win away.

Cardinal (11-11) hosts Van Buren in the first of three straight games to close out regular-season play on Monday. The Comets travel to Davis County on Tuesday and host Central Lee in what is scheduled to be the final game before Cardinal opens Class 2A postseason play at Wapello the following week.
