WEST PLAINS, MO – Make it a perfect 10-0 start to the 2019 volleyball season for the 12th-ranked Indian Hills Warriors.
In what may be a potential district postseason tournament preview, IHCC won a tough four-set battle at the Civic Center in West Plains. Indian Hills produced one of the team’s best offensive attacks of the season in a 25-16, 23-25, 25-10, 25-20 decision over Missouri State-West Plains, maintaining an unbeaten record with three more matches away from home scheduled for this week.
The Warriors established season-highs in kills with 62 and digs with 68. Four different players contribute two ace serves in the win.
Mariana Rodrigues led the Warriors with 18 kills and 22 digs. Thayna Birimba had 15 kills, hitting .538 in the match.
Ana Nunes hit .733 with a dozen kills and six blocks. Amanda Toyota had 16 digs. Freshman setter Cassia Lemos had 57 assists, which tied a season-best, and 12 digs. Lemos is averaging 14.3 assists per set.
Indian Hills goes back on the road Thursday when the Warriors play at No. 8 (DII) Kirkwood (10-4). First serve at Johnson Hall in Cedar Rapids is set for 7 p.m. The Warriors also will play a pair of matches on Friday at Northeast Nebraska’s home tournament.
