So much for that playoff game.
The Bridge City Knights football team was eagerly awaiting a rematch with the Dubuque Bruisers in the first round of the Midwest Football Alliance playoffs this Saturday.
The league said that game won’t happen.
The Bruisers (6-2) throttled the Knights (3-6) at Schafer Stadium in Ottumwa last Saturday by a score of 44-0 in the regular season finale.
The two were supposed to play for a third time up in Dubuque, but due to “conduct detrimental to the Midwest Football Alliance and it’s teams,” the league suspended the Bruisers for the remainder of the 2011 season.
It turns out, the Bruisers posted inappropriate comments about another squad on its website via video. The league didn’t take kindly to the jab.
The Bruisers – which beat the Knights 30-13 in the season opener — limited Bridge City to just 113 total yards, 38 of those from the passing department in the second go-round.
Corey Randall did finish out the season as the league’s leading rusher. He gained 94 yards on 29 carries last Saturday and finished with a league-leading total of 721 yards.
Rick Tully worked his way to four sacks and 10 tackles overall versus the Bruisers. Gabe Washington racked up nine tackles and Sam Della Vedova engineered three sacks and seven tackles. Sean Eckleberry picked off a pass.
