American Little League holds closing ceremonies

Ottumwa American Little League players and coaches were honored on Tuesday night during the 2019 closing ceremonies. The league featured major division teams including the Blue Jays, Orioles, Red Sox, Yankees, Angels and Indians. Minor division teams included the Twins, Astros, Whiz Kids, Chiefs and Expos. PeeWee teams included the Mariners, Rangers, Rays, Royals and White Sox.

League champions were the Chiefs (minors) and Angels (majors). Members of the Angels were Maddex Kennedy, Draek Kennedy, Josiah Van Mannen, Brayden Bjorkgren, Kalan Moss, Ramsey Laux, John Paul Martinez, Owen Jensen, Xavier Reeves and Kale Weeks. Coaches for the Angels were Andy Orona, Rich Kennedy and Ryan Van Mannen. Members of the Chiefs were Brantley Matthews, Dane Hubbard, Alex Gonzalez, Drake Sampson, Kolyn Keovongsack, Cohan Meinders, Preston Breckenridge, Crosby Zuitoff, Titus Rea, Dominic Cobler, Jayce Whennen, Kolby McNeely and Jackson Gier. The team was coached by Dave Matthews.

The Ottumwa American Little League all-star teams will begin district tournament play on Friday hosting the minor and major all-star teams from Jefferson County. Action gets underway at 6 p.m.
