OTTUMWA – The 2019-20 Indian Hills basketball team will be on display for the first time at the annual Meet the Warriors event on Monday, Oct. 21, in the Hellyer Student Life Center with free admission. Action begins at 6 p.m.
Coach Hank Plona, beginning his fifth season with the Warriors, will have select players from the 14-man roster compete in 3-point shooting and dunk contests. The Warriors will go through drills and scrimmage as they continue preparations for the upcoming season.
The players will also be signing autographs at the end of the evening and those who attend will get a free t-shirt and a 2019-20 basketball poster, while supplies last.
The Warriors have already participated in a jamboree in Texas earlier this month and will play three games in another event this weekend in Carbondale, Ill. They have a preseason scrimmage against William Penn set for Oct. 24 at home.
There is a lot of excitement building for the opening weekend of the regular season when the Warriors will host the Reed Overhead Doors Classic Nov. 1-2. Otero Junior College – coached by former IHCC assistant Cole Dewey – along with Pratt Community College from Kansas and John A. Logan College from Illinois will join Indian Hills in the two-day, four-game event. John A. Logan boasts one of the nation’s top JUCO players in Jay Scrubb and, in all likelihood, will be ranked in the top five when the NJCAA preseason poll is released next week. Plona believes his squad could be a top-ten rated team nationally heading into the season.
Season tickets for IHCC’s 18 regular-season home games are still available and can be purchased at www.indianhills.edu/basketballseasontickets.
