WASHINGTON — It took 12 meets — all of them first-place finishes — but the Ottumwa girls golf team will finally have its chance to try to compete at the state meet Monday.

Ottumwa finished the regular season with its 12th win of the season as the Bulldogs defeated Washington 155 to 184 in dual competition Friday afternoon.

“We have had a very successful season and I am proud of how our girls have played this year. We didn’t play up or down to anyone and played our hardest each meet. That’s what I want them to do,” said Ottumwa head coach Dusty Stewart.

The 29-stroke victory was a tad under Ottumwa’s average winning total this season. The Bulldogs have defeated their competition by an average-stroke total of almost 36 strokes.

Ottumwa shot its two lowest team totals of the season this past week.

The Bulldogs will attempt to qualify for the state meet at regional competition this Monday at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City.

“We don’t know much about the other schools in our region because we haven’t played any of them. We just need to go out and play our own games and the rest should be taken care of,” said Stewart.

Ottumwa junior Sarah Paulson shot a one-under par 35 to take medalist honors. OHS senior Allison Zeller carded a 38 and was crowned runner-up of the meet.

Kristin Paulson shot a 40, Paige Wetrich 42, Hailey Sheldahl 54, Betsy Anderson 62, Miranda Goodman 55 and C.J. Toomire a 57 for the Bulldogs.
