WAUKEE — The Ottumwa boys track team is finally getting healthy and the results are starting to show.

The Bulldogs placed fifth at the Waukee Varsity Boys Relays on Tuesday with 57 points. Waukee won the relays with 166 points.

The 4x400 relay epitomized Ottumwa’s return to health. Alex Kelly came back from an ankle injury and for the first time this season, the group of Kelly, Tim Easton, Clint Utter and P.J. Shaeffer ran together. The result was a first place finish. The Bulldogs finished in a time of 3:28.80 to win the event.

The Bulldogs had another good race in the 4x200. Ottumwa ran a 1:32.93 to take first place. The same four runners ran as in the 4x400.

Utter capped off his impressive day with a win in the 200 meter dash. Utter ran a time of 22.76.

“Clint had a superior day today in the 200 and in his leadoff in the 4x400,” Ottumwa coach Jim Nickerson said.
