ANKENY — The Ottumwa boys golf team placed sixth at a loaded Valley Classic at Briarwood Golf Course in Ankeny on Monday.

Ottumwa tallied a team score of 302.

Waukee won the meet with a 285. Ankeny was runner-up (288), Dowling Catholic third (292), West Des Moines Valley fourth (296) and Johnston fifth (300).

“Our score was not a bad score by any means. Today everyone was just lots better,” said OHS head coach Mike Cardin.

The classic was delayed an hour-and-twenty minutes because of lightning.

Ames’ Andrew Huseman was awarded meet medalist honors with a one-under par 69. Waukee’s Mike Woofter was individual runner-up (69).

Ottumwa’s Marcus Giltner and Christian Archer each led the Bulldogs with a 73. Tyler Granneman (78), Erik Thorgaard (78), Cody Palmer (81) and Joe Wetrich (83) rounded out Ottumwa’s scores.

Ottumwa takes on Des Moines Roosevelt in a CIML Metro dual at the Ottumwa Country Club at 3:30 p.m. today.
