WAPELLO — Lauren Derscheid secured her first Southeast Iowa Superconference individual cross-country championship, edging sophomore teammate Lauren Steigleder by 11.3 seconds as the Panther teammates led third-ranked (1A) Pekin to the SEISC cross-country team title.
Pekin finished with 20 points, beating out Danville-New London by 31. Five Panthers earned all-conference honors led by a winning run of 20:50.13 by Derscheid and a second-place run of 21:01.43 by Steigleder.
Payten Poling and Faith Neeley both earned all-conference honors for the Van Buren County girls. Poling finished fifth in 21:18.08 while Neeled finished sixth in 21:52.79.
Sarah Eubanks (eighth in 22:15.19) and Audrey Fariss (ninth in 22:26.83) joined Mia Clark (15th in 22:59.35) by placing in the top 15 for Pekin. Zoey Johnson (16th, 23:02.84), Emily Laumeyer (23:24.64), Lexi Swearingen (21st, 24:11.83), Brooke Sylvester (23rd, 24:35.52), Aliya Peel (25th, 24:37.82), Renae Eubanks (34th, 25:37.96) rounded out the conference meet for the Panther girls.
Zach Wise led the Pekin boys to a fourth-place finish in the SEISC meet, earning all-conference honors by crossing the finish line in third place posting a time of 17:17.19. The Panthers scored 139 points, falling three points behind Winfield-Mount Union for third place with Ben Guise (22nd, 19:28.91), Jaedon Wolver (26th, 19:45.05), Robert Brown (56th, 21:23.54), Gavyn Brown (66th, 22:05.92), J.T. Spray (89th, 24:54.87), Dylan Sobaski (96th, 26:14.82) and Kaelan Elder (101st, 27:41.65) rounding out the race for the Pekin boys.
Gavin Grove earned all-conference honors for the Cardinal boys for the second year in a row, finishing ninth in 18:16.35 while Comet teammate Karson Kirkpatrick finished 28th in 19:57.87 in the SEISC boys race. Chase Clark edged teammate Isaiah Meek by 0.19 seconds for 41st place to pace the Van Buren County boys while Warrior teammate Grant Lilley finished 60th in 21:38.38.
The Cardinal girls finished third as a team in the SEISC meet with 87 points. Araceli Tapitillo (20th, 24:01.92), Lauren Sloan (22nd, 24:28.25), Caitlyn Reber (24th, 24:37.82), Ava Ferrell (30th, 25:11.34), Shakayla Uehling-Techel (39th, 26:15.88), Makenzi Preston (42nd, 26:25.42), Ashlyn Patrick (50th, 26:58.94) and Abi Durflinger (56th, 28:07.23) represented the Comets in the conference meet.
