Summers advances to finals at Boys Town Invite

Ottumwa sophomore Trevor Summers will hope to have his hand raised on Saturday at the 49th annual Boys Town Invitational prep wrestling tournament in Nebraska. Summers (12-1) advanced to the 160-pound final with a pair of wins on Friday, helping the Bulldogs move into seventh place as a team scoring 18 of Ottumwa’s 45 points.

BOYS TOWN, Neb. – Ottumwa sophomore Trevor Summers shook off his first loss of the season, scoring two victories in Nebraska at the Boys Town Invitational on Friday.

Summers (12-1) secured his first victory in the 160-pound bracket by pinning Omaha Roncalli junior Jabez Anderson in 59 seconds. In the semifinals, Summers battled Elkhorn South junior Ayden Welch, rallying for a 3-2 win by scoring a decisive take down in the final minute of the second period.

Summers will face unbeaten senior Trey Shananhan of Wahoo High School in the 160-pound title match. Shananhan scored first-period falls in the first two rounds, improving to 7-0 on the season.

Ottumwa finished the opening day of the Boys Town Invitational in seventh place as a team with 45 points. Chris Luedtke (113), Zachariah Shoemaker (138) and Corbin Grace (120) advanced to the semifinal rounds of their respective weight classes and will wrestle Saturday to clinch a place in the top six, as will heavyweight Noe Villatoro.

Action continues with third-round consolation matches beginning Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Placement matches including all championship finals will begin at 11 a.m.
