Richmond signs with William Penn

Ottumwa High School bowler Garraty Richmond (seated middle) became the most recent member of the OHS bowling program to sign with William Penn University earlier this month, joining Bulldog teammates Jaxson Coble and Dawson Greene in joining the Statesmen men’s bowling program, represented by coach Brandon Brooks (far right). Seated with Richmond at the signing are parents Shawn Richmond, Rebecca Brown and Travis Brown as well as Ottumwa head boys bowling coach Tom Maher. Richmond joined Coble and Greene in becoming a state placewinning bowler for the Bulldogs, finishing sixth last month individually at the Class 2A boys state bowling tournament in Waterloo with a pair of 237 games for a 474 total. As a team, Ottumwa finished third in the state, just 14 pins shy of the program’s first state title with a score of 3,289. “I wouldn’t trade this team for anything,” Richmond said. “I’ve thought this team could win a state championship every year I’ve been a part of it. It’s been a great program to be a part of.”
