KEOSAUQUA — The Van Buren High School softball team scored a combine 22 runs in two games to roll to its own tournament title Saturday at Van Buren High School.
Van Buren defeated Cardinal 9-4, using a seven-run sixth inning to erase a deficit.
Lexi Jirak, Chelsey Huff and Selena Sayre drove in two runs apiece for Van Buren, while Huff was 3-for-4 at the plate as part of the Warriors' 13-hit attack.
Eighth-grader Ally Campbell picked up the first of her two wins on the day, striking out three over six innings.
Van Buren then defeated Montezuma 13-1 in four innings. Ten different players had hits, as Isabel Manning, Huff, Sayre and Ella Jirak had two hits apiece. Eight different players drove in runs. The Warriors were boosted by a 12-run second inning.
Campbell struck out six in a complete-game effort.
Van Buren (6-2) hosts Centerville in a doubleheader Monday.
