FORT MADISON — Fairfield High School softball coach Bob Bradfield became the 18th coach in Iowa history to win 1,000 career games as the Trojans swept a Southeast Conference doubleheader against Fort Madison.
Bradfield won his 1,000th game in the Trojans' 2-1 victory in the first game. Hannah Simpson drove in both Fairfield runs, while pitcher Allison Rebling struck out 12 and walked four over seven innings.
He then picked up his 1,001st win in an 8-4 victory in the second game. A three-run fifth inning snapped a 2-2 tie, and the Trojans never trailed in the contest. Coty Engle and Delaney Breen each drove in two runs for the Trojans (6-6), while Danielle Breen scored twice.
Engle pitched five innings to earn the win, allowing two earned runs. Rebling finished the game in relief, striking out four.
Bradfield is 1,001-638 in a career that began in 1979. He's one of only eight active coaches to win 1,000 games.
Fairfield hosts Keokuk Thursday.
