MORAVIA — In a tight battle for the boys team title for the Centerville Big Red Invitational cross-country title, 15th-ranked (2A) Davis County was able to edge Oskaloosa by two points (88-90) for the team title at The Preserve Golf Course.
Carson Shively was edged out for the individual win in the boys race by Oskaloosa senior Patrick De Ronde as the all-state Mustang senior settled for second in a time of 16:29. Davis County had two other top-20 finishes in Brody Humphrey (16th, 18:11) and Mark Shirley (20th, 18:30) while Micah Carroll (23rd, 18:33), Taylor Huggins (27th, 18:38), Aaron Cook (28th, 18:39) and Drake Hamm (51st, 19:13) rounded out the Davis County lineup.
The 16th-ranked (2A) Albia boys grabbed sixth as a team with 138 points. The Blue Demons were led by a pair of strong runs from Ethan Stalzer (fifth, 17:14) and Dawson Bonnett (seventh, 17:19) with John Pistek (35th, 18:50), C.J. Ratliff (37th, 18:53), Adam Sheffield (55th, 19:20), Ethan Yarkosky (56th, 19:25) and Grant Wilson (60th, 19:32) rounding out the scoring for Albia.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont ended up in 12th-place with 358 points. Sam Seddon raced to a 46th-place finish to lead the Rockets in 19:05 while Noah Walker (81st, 20:06), Carsen Wade (117th, 21:48), Grant Larue (124th, 21:57) and Jackson Tuller (135th, 22:21) rounded out the race for the Rocket boys.
Euan Lecthenberg (98th, 20:39) and Mason Opperman (130th, 22:11) represented the Centerville boys in the Big Reds’ home invite. Moravia freshman Parker Armstrong finished 155th in 23:46 while Moulton-Udell sophomore Hayden Brinegar finished 156th in 23:51.
The 12th-ranked (2A) Albia girls started off the night by winning a fifth straight team title, completing a sweep at The Preserve after winning the Moravia Mohawk Invitational two weeks earlier. The Lady Dees scored 46 points, beating No. 18 (2A) Davis County by 52.
Serene Thompson would pace the Lady Dees with her third-place finish with a time of 20:1456. Avery Major (eighth, 20:48), Olivia Sheffield (10th, 20:58), Lily Buckingham (11th, 21:02), Juliana Brown (22nd, 22:06), Ellie Martin (39th, 23:13) and Makenna Cronin (40th, 23:18) rounded out Albia’s lineup.
Davis County was paced by Macy Hill as the senior finished fourth in the girls race for the Mustangs with a team-best time of 20:24. Addison Stuchel would also run an impressive race by taking 15th at 21:31.
The rest of the Davis County lineup was Karston Nebel (25th, 22:16), Makayla Bachman (29th, 22:32), Cassidy VanLaningham (42nd, 23:27), Alyvia Van Maanen (48th, 23:38) and Jada Will (53rd, 23:50).
The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont girls would take 12th place out of 13 teams with 270 points.
Katelynn Glenn (23:33) and Ava Eastlick (23:48) did well running together and paced the Rockets with 39th and 45th place finishes, respectively. Claire Hayward (60th, 24:28), Abby Jager (66th, 24:46), Nicole Edgren (99th, 26:50), Samantha Rist (122nd, 29:59) and Lillian Fairchild (136th, 34:39) also scored points for EBF.
Centerville teammates Lauren Phillips (14th, 21:25) and Noelle Carver (21st, 22:04) represented the Redettes in Centerville’s home race. Moravia freshman Olivia Hathcock placed 116th in 29:10.
