DONNELLSON — Rachel Lewman and Kassidy Verrips each drove in a run, and the Cardinal High School softball team scored twice in the opening inning on its way to a 4-1 SEI Superconference South Division victory over Central Lee.

A single by Lewman and an error later in the inning put the Comets up early, then they tacked on single runs in the third and fifth innings to back a dominating performance in the pitcher's circle by Verrips.

Verrips struck out 13 without a walk in earning a victory. The Lady Hawks' lone run came in the seventh on a double by Andrea Benner.

Cardinal hosts Highland Wednesday.

No. 6 Louisa-Muscatine 5, Pekin 0

LETTS — The Panthers were held to just two hits and three baserunners in a SEI Superconference North Division loss to the Class 3A sixth-ranked Falcons.

Emilee Linder and Emi Zook had singles in the contest, while Kylie Davis took the loss. She lasted just one inning, allowing five runs and walking three. Selena Sayre had three hits and scored twice.

New London led 2-0, fell behind 6-2 in the fifth, and led 8-6 in the sixth before Van Buren took the lead for good.

Eighth-grader Ally Campbell picked up the win in relief of Chelsey Huff, tossing a pair of shutout innings.

Van Buren 10, New London 8

NEW LONDON — The Warriors scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning as the lead changed hands three times in the final three innings of a South Division road win.

Lexi Jirak scored twice and drove in a pair of runs for Van Buren, which banged out 16 hits.

PCM 4, EBF 2

MONROE — Four walks and a hit batter helped PCM score four times in the third inning. Wyatt Klyn, who took the loss on the pitching mound, scored behind Jaden Herr in the sixth inning as the Rocket rally fell just short.

"Our at-bats got better in the last few innings," EBF head baseball coach Thomas Hallgren said. "I hope we can move forward after two tough nights at the plate."

EBF (5-5) returns to South Central Conference play with a doubleheader at home against Clarke at Ron Welsch Field in Eddyville.

Pekin 13, Louisa-Muscatine 0 (5 innings)

LETTS — Caleb Comstock was 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs, and an eight-run third inning propelled the Panthers past the Falcons in a SEI Superconference North Division game.

Pekin added five runs in the top of the fifth to put the run-rule in effect.

Kennan Winn pitched the win, allowing just one hit.

Pekin visits Notre Dame today.

Van Buren 12, New London 3

NEW LONDON — The Warriors scored 10 of their runs in the final three innings to overcome an early deficit and defeat the Tigers in a SEI Superconference South Division road contest.

Ryan Wolf went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs, while Tony Davison had two hits and drove in two runs. Treyton Bainbridge had three RBIs.

Mason McDonough pitched 4 1/3 innings, and allowed three runs and struck out three in earning the win.
