GOTHENBURG, Neb. — The Indian Hills golf team is in pretty good shape after the first round of the NJCAA Division I District III Golf Tournament being held in Gothenburg, Neb.
After Monday’s first 36 holes, the Warriors hold a 21-stroke lead over their nearest competitors, and the Warriors have the top two golfers and six golfers currently in the top 10.
“To be able to come out here and post those scores and have a lead like this over top schools in country, I’m very happy with that,” said IHCC coach Mike Hagen.
Dodge City and Hutchinson each have team scores of of 604 while Indian Hills came through with a team round of 583. The Warriors finished second at the district tourney last season.
Steven McGlynn leads the way with the low score of the tournament at 142 for IHCC, while Jake Weeber carded 143, second best on Monday. Nate Smith is in fifth place with 149 while Eric Anfinson is in ninth place at 151. Chris Dougal rounds out IHCC’s scoring with a 152.
Two IHCC golfers playing as individuals are in the top 10. Andy Wehr is in third place with a 145 while Nick Ott is in ninth place with a 151.
The final round of the tourney resumes today.
“I told the guys we need to go out and fire one more solid round, whatever the conditions, and finish strong going into nationals,” said Hagen.
