ELDON — Highland High School's Jacob Leonard struck out eight in tossing a no-hitter as the Huskies routed Cardinal 10-0 in five innings of a SEI Superconference crossover baseball game Wednesday at Cardinal High School.

Cardinal (4-3) was shut out for the second day in a row, and was in the game until Highland scored nine times in the top of the fifth inning.

Brody Burton, Dan Burton and Trey Lasek all drove in two runs for the Huskies, while Leonard helped himself at the plate with three hits.

Landon Becker, Blaine Bryant and Braden Ridgway walked and were the Comets' lone base runners. Cardinal committed four errors in the contest.

Ryan Clark tossed four innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out four.

SOFTBALL

Clarke 11, No. 13 EBF 3

EDDYVILLE — The Indians scored seven unearned runs off eight errors in upending the Class 3A 13th-ranked Rockets in a South Central Conference contest.

Clarke scored three times in the opening inning against EBF pitcher Reina Taylor, then took a nine-run lead after scoring six in the third.

Sadie Marker collected three hits and drove in three runs for Clarke, while pitcher Alexis Watson went the distance, striking out nine and walking just one.

Taylor allowed just four earned runs and struck out four for the Rockets, and drove in two runs to help her cause offensively. Emma Lenox also had two hits.

Cardinal 2, Highland 0

ELDON — The Comets scored twice in the third inning, and Kassidy Verrips tossed a two-hitter to beat the Huskies in a SEI Superconference crossover game.

The teams combined for just six hits, and Alexia McClure and Maddie Cloke scored Cardinal's runs.

Verrips needed just 78 pitches to get through the game, and she struck out six in earning the win.
