IHCC nets 7-0 start

Indian Hills freshman Megan Wick lines up her first career collegiate goal on Wednesday, helping the Warrior women’s soccer team improve to a program-best 7-0 start to the season with a 12-1 win over Scott Community College in Ottumwa.

OTTUMWA - As it turns out, Veronica Blidchenko is only the second-most famous athlete from Chariton to produce points at the next level.

Blidchenko rebounded from a missed penalty kick late in a 12-1 win for the Indian Hills women's soccer team over Scott Community College on Wednesday, heading in a pass from Georgia Lindon in the 85th minute to become the ninth different Warrior to find the back of the net. Blidchenko then set up IHCC's 10th goal scorer of the day, feeding Ashley Polendo in the 87th minute to complete a two-point day for the former Chariton soccer standout.

That's just four points short of another Chariton High School graduate, T.J. Hockenson, who scored his first National Football League touchdown on Sunday in the regular-season opener for the Detroit Lions, a 27-27 tie with the Arizona Cardinals.

Like Hockenson, the past few months for Blidchenko have been an eye-opener as a freshman
