ELDON — Verle L. “Butch” Steen, 61, of 5567 45th Ave., Eldon, died of a heart attack November 10, 2005, while farming south of Batavia.

He was born March 16, 1944 in Ottumwa to Charles O. and Myrtle Icyphene Steele Steen. He married Sharon Creech June 10, 1966 in Eldon.

A graduate of Cardinal High School, he had been a resident of the Agency and Eldon area most of his life. He had been employed at Loudens for 37 years and farmed northwest of Eldon for over 30 years. He served in the Company B 224th Engineer Battalion Iowa National Guard.

Surviving is his wife; a daughter, Kim Steen of Eldon; a grandson, Seth “Little Butch”; a granddaughter, Shelby “Sissy”; two brothers, David Steen of Eddyville, Tim Steen of Ottumwa; three sisters, Loretta Hall of Diamond, IL, Martha Steen and Charlotte Steen, both of Live Oak, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Frances Steen; and a brother, Charles Steen Jr.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery. The casket will remain closed.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established to Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon.
